They have grey, stiff, sharply pointed big leaves. They have a strong and long rhizome and they often form large collections. Grows on sandy and gravel beaches. Common both on seashores and the sand dunes of Lake Peipus. They may spread from the coast to inland via the sides of roads that are salted in winters to prevent slipperiness.
