The elk is the largest deer and the largest animal in Estonia. The elk is an animal with long legs and high shoulders. Adult animals weigh 500 kilograms on average. It has a brown coat. Only the males have antlers, which start growing in the spring and are shed each winter.
The elk feeds on plants: plants, grasses, leaves and bark. Adult elks gather in herds and live in large forest areas. There are about 10,000 elks living in Estonia.
