Catsfoot is in the aster family. The species is most commonly found in northern and eastern Finland. It even grows on fells in the North. It is rare in Helsinki, and has been found in three locations (1998). It grows on dry and open heaths, meadows and rocks. These habitats have decreased dramatically due to intergrowth and eutrophication. The catsfoot is considered near-threatened in Finland.
