The ash (Fraxinus excelsior), a calciphile found in herb-rich forests, is an impressive sight in the spring and summer due to its vivid green colour. In the autumn, it turns into a gorgeous shade of yellow. It is easy to identify even before sprouting leaves by its black buds. Ash trees sprout their leaves later in the year than many other deciduous trees. Wood of ash is hard and tough.
