The colewort has a yellow flower. It grows along paths, and its seeds cling to the trouser legs of anyone passing by. The bulbous, reddish fruits of the colewort lie in wait on different sides of the shoot – the tips of the nutlets have sharp hooks that attach to coat tails or the fur of the fox. This is how it transports its seeds elsewhere.
