The American mink (Neovision vison) is a coastal, nocturnal mammal, which can sometimes be seen moving about during the day as well. It has a dark coat and an elongated body that is notably larger than that of the stoat. Its habitat consists of piers, stone walls and rocky areas.

The American mink preys on small rodents, fish and frogs as well as waterfowl, including their eggs and young. It hides surplus food under rocks. Native to North America, the American mink has spread to other areas by escaping from fur farms.
