The Eurasian tree sparrow prefers open fields of weeds and meadows on the edges of town. Similarly to other sparrows, it does not like urban areas or indoor spaces. The Eurasian tree sparrow has spread and become more phenomenally abundant throughout Finland, including Helsinki. The Eurasian tree sparrow has a dark spot on its white cheek, and the sexes look similar. It gladly flies long distances, unlike the house sparrow. It usually nests in a bird box or hole in a tree.
