True to their name, the rabbitfoot clover’s (Trifolium arvense) inflorescences are like soft rabbit feet. The grey-and-white calyces protect these extraordinary clover flowers. In Helsinki, rabbitfoot clover is quite a rare plant, and sightings are noteworthy. It can mostly be found in sunny, dry areas, where the calyces are vital for protecting the plant’s flowers and shells.
In addition to Vasikkasaari, rabbitfoot clover can be found in Suomenlinna and, lately, also in the meadows around the Töölönlahti tracks. It is only common in Åland and Southwest Finland.
