Long-leaved speedwells (Veronica longifolia) and their blue flowers are often easy to spot among shore plants. The beautiful inflorescence blooms for a long time in midsummer.

In Helsinki, long-leaved speedwells can be found growing on rocky seashores, the meadows by the river Vantaanjoki and on some fertile rocks in eastern Helsinki. The types of rocks that the plants grow on, such as the pillow lava in Vuosaari, reveal that their habitats were once under the sea. The long-leaved speedwell is used as an ornamental garden plant.
