In the spring, fields of grass are often dappled with patches of yellow least gagea (Gagea minima) flowers. The bright green leaves are also easy to distinguish in the pale grass after winter. Least gageas can be found in the inner city areas of Helsinki and on the nearby large islands, along the shores of the river Vantaanjoki and in the areas surrounding manor houses.
