The devil’s-bit scabious (Succisa pratensis), which grows on meadows, shores and at the edges of forests, is an impressive sight when in bloom. In late summer, the blue-violet, semi-spherical flowers attract significant numbers of butterflies and other insects. Harakka island has extensive stands of devil’s-bit scabious. Devil’s-bit scabious has been used in many ways: as medicine, as a spice, to brew tea, to produce dye and as an ornamental plant.
