Marsh marigolds (Caltha palustris) grow in lush and damp areas. In Helsinki, they can be found in Vanhankaupunginlahti and Central Park. The marsh marigold is highly poisonous, but in olden times marsh marigold buds preserved in vinegar and salt were used as food. It is also known as a medicinal plant. In addition to regular marsh marigolds, there are white and red-flowered as well as flore pleno cultivars available for garden plantings.
