The biting stonecrop (Sedum acre) grows in large, yellow swathes on nutrient-rich rocks that receive plenty of sunlight. Their growth conditions are further improved by large bird populations in areas such as Harakka island.
The bitter leaves of biting stonecrop have been used for medicinal purposes in the past, but nowadays it is considered poisonous. Biting stonecrops are also popular decorative plants for rocky yards.
