The bird’s-foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) is a ground-hugging, leguminous plant that reaches full bloom as early as June. That early in the year the surrounding plants are still low enough not to hide bird’s-foot trefoil flowers from view.
Bird’s-foot trefoils are found on open seashores as well as inland in waste lands, by the roadside and in sandpits. The protected coastal meadow in Kallahti is dappled yellow by bird’s-foot trefoils in June.
