The beach pea (Lathyrus japonicus) is a seashore plant that bears a very close resemblance to the pea. It can survive quite far away from the waterline in zones with pine trees that are starting to turn into forests, as you can see near Kallahdenniemi beach.

The flowers, which appear in late summer, are an impressive shade of purple. Beach pea seeds should not be eaten, as they are poisonous.
