In the spring, the sunny deciduous and mixed forest of southern Finland are filled with extensive stands of wood anemones (Anemone nemorosa). In the past, the wood anemone was used as a medicinal plant, and it has traditionally been picked for mothers on Mother’s Day. Nowadays it is used as an ornamental plant in gardens, and there are numerous cultivars available at seedling shops.
